Major Update of our Web Version

We have listened to you and worked hard to make your learning even better!

So let’s summarize all the new things:

Layout & Navigation

In the quizzes we have moved some of the quiz options into a small drop-down menu. This allows you to focus better on the words you are learning and you are less distracted by the menu bar.

Old Version:

New Version:

Improved mobile pages. If you use L-Lingo on mobile you will find it has now improved layout for different screen sizes and a new menu with easier access to more options.

Quiz Names

You will now see the names of the quizzes when you move the mouse over the quiz icons. So it is easier for you than remembering what the icons mean:

Add App to your Homescreen

If you use L-Lingo regularly on your mobile phone you can now add it as a direct launch icon to your homescreen. To do this, you must use Google Chrome as browser. Once you have opened the web-app and are logged in, go to the Chrome menu and click on  “Add to home screen” and then ‘add’.

After this you can launch L-Lingo directly from your start screen on your mobile phone, just like a normal app.

There have been tons of other small improvements being implemented. Please let us know your thoughts or if something is not working as expected!

It’s Launched!

17 languages, each with more than 5000 words, as 2-way quiz-cards, and that’s just the new add-on vocabulary builder!

We know that learning a new language can be a tough challenge, and that’s why L-Lingo is more than a software or language product; it’s our passion.

For a long time we’ve had to say that to become truly fluent in a foreign language you can, or should, use L-Lingo to enhance and improve upon any other tools and methods you may already be using.

Today that has changed, a lot.

L-Lingo Online is now capable of taking you from ANY level, all the way to fluent, in ONE product.

YES you should still use other tools too, YES learning to speak a new language fluently is still a challenge – and YES, you CAN do it! And now you can do it all in one place, online and it’s right here, right now.

Just click the L-Lingo logo at the top of the screen, and see how we’ve made it easier than it’s ever been before.

Let’s go?

Vocabulary Builder – Hard Decisions as We Move Forward

As we come close to launching the integration of a sophisticated vocabulary builder into yourL-Lingo Online lessons, we are being forced into making some tough decisions…

This new vocabulary builder will give our online students a massive boost in content, with 5000 of the most common words in each language, all pre-sorted for ease-of-learning and into logical categories!

It’s a huge and expensive undertaking and the first and hardest decision has already been made, and it means there is some sad news for learners of Hindi, Polish and Ukrainian. Those languages are just not popular enough to justify the high costs involved in this upgrade.

We really wanted to offer the vocabulary builder to students of ALL our languages, but with regret it is just not possible this year. We know that must be frustrating and we do apologize!

Those 3 languages WILL still be available at L-Lingo as normal; they just won’t be getting the new vocabulary builder feature.

Another tough decision is about user choice…

Let us explain what the new feature is and how the it works.

Firstly it is intended to accompany your normal lessons, rather than replace them. While you lessons show words and phrases as complete sentences and with grammar notes, the vocabulary builder is primarily about learning more words, as fast as possible!

It is up to you if you wish to use it before or after a lesson, though we recommend after, if you are doing both in one visit.

At the start of your session you are shown cards, one at a time, with a word in your native language or your target language on each card.

ART-IQ Step 1

Flip the card and rate your answer with the buttons below

You think of the answer, then ‘flip’ the card to see if you were right. You then rate your abilit to answer that card as Easy, Medium or Hard. If it was really easy you can elect to drop it (remove it from the deck).

If it was very difficult or a word you really want to learn fast, you can “flag” the card for earlier review

ART-IQ™ (Advanced Spaced Repetition – Immediate Quiz) combines 3 proven techniques to boost your memory. Step 1 gives you quiz-cards for reviewing at longer and longer time intervals, based on our advanced algorithm tracking your response to each card. This is because a series of reminders just before you forget something is the best way to build up a strong memory of it!

Step 2 gives you an instant multiple-choice quiz of the same cards, because answering questions correctly is also a proven technique, forcing your brain to hold onto the information.

L-Lingo Multiple Choice Quiz

An immediate quiz boosts your memory

In step 3 we give you immediate feedback on your progress, an established trick for maintaining motivation! The overall result is ART-IQ™ builds your vocabulary faster, with superior long term recall.

So the tough decision is should we give the user a choice over taking the multiple-choice quiz immediately after the cards, or make it part of the session so that the user cannot finish a session without completing the quiz?

We know the quiz will seem “too easy” but we also know it will boost your learning, so we’re debating how to proceed!

Do you want us to give you the freedom to choose, or to bully you into learning faster? If you’re already a student, please let us know your thoughts via your dashboard contact form!

L-Lingo now includes access to mobile apps

Over the past years we have often been asked why our mobile versions are not part of the L-Lingo subscription and if its possible to have a subscription plan that covers all L-Lingo languages.

Today, we have replaced our old Premium subscription and Desktop Versions with two new subscription plans. The new basic plan now includes free access to all lessons on your iOS or Android devices. The new pro plan gives you access to all 20+ languages that L-Lingo offers and is especially interesting for all of you that are learning two or more languages.

With this change, we have also discontinued our desktop versions. By focusing on the web versions, we are able to bring new features and updates more quickly to you.

In case you have any questions, please let us know.

New L-Lingo Design & Good bye Flash!

In the last few years, the browser technology has made great progress and as a result we are now able to give our users the same great L-Lingo Experience without being dependent on the Adobe Flash plugin.

We are currently rolling out a new web design and L-Lingo online application that no longer relies on the flash plugin. We have kept the structure, content and navigation of the web application very similar and thus you should have no problems in using the new version.

Although the new version will also enable us to offer the web app on mobile devices like Android or iOS, the current version is optimised for Desktop use. For mobile devices we strongly recommend you to use our native mobile apps.

As this has been a complete rewrite of the flash application we tested the new version extensively. However there still might be some issues that we did not spot. So in case you have any problems, please let us know at support@l-lingo.com!

Newsletter Signup for Extended Trial Version:

For the ones who got the login when signing up for our newsletter, you now have to use your email address to login together with the password that we send you after you signed up to our newsletter.

These changes are part of an ongoing effort to improve our website and make learning with L-Lingo even more effective. So stay tuned.

In case you face any problems with the new login, please contact us via our contact form.

Important Notice to our iOS users

We have just released a new iOS Version with the Version Number 5.35. It is important that you install this update and launch the app and a quiz at least once. This Version will prepare the app to be able to transfer its lesson statistics to our brand new major version (probably 6.00) that will be released in 1-2 weeks from now. If you do not install and launch the intermediary Version 5.35 you might loose the statistics data on your lessons with the next major update.

L-Lingo now available for iPhone

I know many of you have been waiting for this.

We are happy to let you know that Apple has approved our iPhone Apps. You can now use L-Lingo on your iPhone or iPod Touch and we offer all our languages: Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, Burmese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese.

You can find all our Apps in the Apple App Store or on iTunes.

The iPhone App offers you the first 65 lessons of L-Lingo with a training mode and picture and translation quizzes. So it is a great way to learn your favorite Asian language when on the go. Here are some screen shots of L-Lingo Learn Thai.

It does not contain a few features from the Desktop Version (audio mp3 files, slow speech option, printable flashcards and textbook) but with its quizzes and language content its a great way to support your language learning when away from the computer.

We currently do not yet offer a free trial version (developing and getting Apps approved takes some time). If you have any questions or technical problems with the App, please drop us a line under support@l-lingo.com so that we can fix and address any problems. We are very dedicated to constantly improving our products.

Please note: L-Lingo for iOS only runs on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th Generation. A special iPad Version is under development. So stay tuned!
